Themes: 58 storefront designs, preview before you commit
Your theme is your storefront's entire design system — layout, typography, product cards, cart drawer, checkout screens, even the 404 page. BirrStore ships **58 hand-built themes**, each a complete design, not a color swap. You preview any of them on your own real store before committing, and switching never touches your products, orders, or content. ## How to preview a theme 1. Go to **Theme** in the dashboard at /dashboard/theme and browse the directory. Higher plans unlock all 58; plans without the **allThemes** flag can select from the standard set of 17 (aurora, atelier, boutique, heritage, lumen, minimal, bazaar, editorial-lux, cyber-lab, pastel-dream, oceanic-blue, desert-sunset, art-deco-gold, industrial-steel, monochrome-street, grid, glass-boutique). 2. Choose **preview** on a candidate. The platform opens your actual storefront — your real products, collections, and pages — rendered in the candidate theme. 3. Walk the whole store while previewing: home, product pages, collections, cart, checkout, blog, docs, support, and the customer account area all render in the candidate. 4. When you are sure, click **Apply** on the floating preview bar. Until you apply, nothing is saved — the preview rides a one-hour, owner-only cookie and the live theme row is never touched. Click **Exit preview** to return to your current theme instantly. ## How themes render your pages Every theme is hand-built and renders its own distinct version of every route. Cinematic themes give product pages film-poster treatment; editorial themes set products in magazine grids; the IDE-inspired theme renders specs like code blocks. This is why previewing matters: you are judging a complete design system, applied consistently on every page your shoppers can reach — including structured data and SEO output, which every theme carries. ## Theme settings and your brand 1. Open **Theme settings** from the theme area. Each theme exposes its own controls — a sky gradient here, a spotlight intensity there — set per theme and applied live. 2. Your **brand colors carry over**: the primary and accent colors set in your store's branding override each theme's defaults, so your identity survives even a dramatic restyle. 3. Many themes ship with full **dark and light mode** support — a light-first design with a true dark mode, or a dark default with a light variant. Shoppers get the mode the theme is built around; several themes render both beautifully. 4. Apply, then browse the storefront once more on a phone. Every theme is responsive, but you should see your own photos in it before you call it done. ## What happens next Applying a theme is instant and reversible — pick another from the directory and preview again. Your products, collections, blog posts, pages, orders, and customer data are untouched by theme changes; only presentation moves. ## Tips 1. Preview with your worst product photo, not your best. The theme that survives your weakest imagery is the one that will scale. 2. Judge the cart drawer and mobile menu during preview — those surfaces sell more than the homepage does. 3. If a theme you love is locked on your plan, **Billing** shows what upgrading includes; standard-set themes are deliberately strong so you can launch free and restyle later. ## FAQ **Will switching themes break my links or SEO?** No. Handles, URLs, and your SEO settings stay the same — only rendering changes — and every theme outputs the structured data search engines expect. **Can I edit theme code?** Themes are curated rather than hand-hacked; customization runs through theme settings and your brand colors. That is what keeps every theme stable across platform updates. **What is the preview bar I see while previewing?** It is the platform's own indicator that you are in an unsaved preview, with **Apply** and **Exit** actions. Your shoppers never see it — previews are scoped to the store owner's session.
