Bundles & Upsells: raise average order value honestly
Bundles and Upsells are two apps with one job: raise average order value with offers that are genuinely good for the customer. The platform is deliberately strict here — discounts are real, suggestions are relevant, and there are no fake countdowns or manufactured scarcity. That honesty is not just ethics; it converts better over a year than pressure tactics that burn trust. ## How to create a bundle 1. Open **Apps** and go to **Bundles** at /dashboard/apps/bundles. 2. Click to create a bundle. Give it a **name** (up to 100 characters) and a short **description** (up to 500). 3. Pick **2 to 10 products**. The app resolves each product's price and shows the **combined price** so your discount math is visible before you commit. 4. Set the **discount percentage** — capped at 70% by design. Zero percent is allowed if you want a pure "buy these together" grouping with no price change. 5. Save. When the discount is above zero, the app **automatically creates a matching coupon** — code pattern BND-XXXXXX-XXXX, percentage type, with a minimum subtotal equal to the combined bundle price — so your existing checkout applies it without new checkout work. 6. Editing the bundle keeps the coupon in sync; deleting the bundle disables its coupon. The numbers never drift. ## How to create an upsell 1. Open **Apps** and go to **Upsells** at /dashboard/apps/upsells. 2. Create a rule: choose the **trigger product** (or **any product**), the **offer product** to suggest, and a **message** up to 160 characters — "Pairs well with the oak stand" beats "You might also like". 3. Save the rule. The offer renders as a genuine companion suggestion on the relevant product pages. The app refuses nonsense: the offer product cannot trigger its own suggestion, and both products must exist in your store. ## Where offers render 1. **Bundles** surface on the storefront through the bundles integration on product pages — the grouped products and combined pricing are shown together — and the discount applies at **checkout** through the auto-generated coupon once the bundle's items meet the minimum subtotal. 2. **Upsells** render on the product page of the trigger product, as part of the page content. No popups over the store, no timers, no invented "only 2 left" — the customer always sees exactly what they get at the stated price. ## An AOV strategy that works 1. Bundle the accessory with the anchor product (camera + case + card) at a modest 5-10% off. The margin survives; the convenience sells. 2. Upsell consumables and refills on hardware, and care products on apparel — items the buyer plausibly needs within ninety days. 3. Keep one "any product" upsell rule live as a safety net, but specific pairings outperform it — build one per hero product. 4. Track results in **Analytics**: average order value is a dashboard KPI, and bundles move it within days when the pairing is right. ## FAQ **Do I need to give the coupon code to customers?** The coupon exists so checkout honors the discount. Show the bundle on the product page with its combined price; the checkout applies the code's rules when the cart qualifies. **Can I run a BOGO-style promotion?** Yes — the plugins library includes a BOGO offer plugin alongside bundles, rendered on product pages with the discount applied at checkout. Use whichever framing fits the promotion. **Why is the bundle discount capped at 70%?** Because the cap is what keeps your catalog honest: the combined price and the discount are both displayed, and nothing allows a fake "was/now" gap. Set honest percentages and the strategy compounds.
