Day 2: Build the Storefront in One Sitting

Account, theme (from 58 — preview, pick, stop), logo, colors, story page, and the policy pages that ship pre-written. Three to four hours, one sitting, hard stop.

Sep 27, 2026

Yesterday you picked a niche people actually search for. Today you build the shop. Not a draft, not a mood board — a store that loads, with your name on it, that a stranger could buy from if you let them. One sitting. Three to four hours. I'll timebox each piece so you don't fall into the classic trap: spending six hours on the logo and never adding products. This part of the week feels productive but produces zero revenue by itself. Do it once, well, and move on. ## Create the account (15 minutes) Sign up at storelink.top, verify your email, set your store name. That's it for now — don't wander into every settings tab. Two quick decisions: - **Store name:** your niche statement from Day 1 probably contains it. Keep it short and spellable. If someone hears it once, they should be able to type it. - **Store URL:** it becomes your slug in every link you'll ever share. Shorter is better. "laylas-closet" beats "laylas-amazing-modest-fashion-closet" forever. ## Pick a theme in 20 minutes, not 20 hours Store by BirrCommerce ships with **58 themes, each with a live preview**. This is where people lose the day, so here's the rule: **you may not customize anything until a theme is chosen.** Customization before choice is how you burn an evening swapping fonts on a theme you'll abandon. - **Shortlist 3 themes in 10 minutes** based on your niche. Modest fashion? You want big imagery, a lookbook feel. Phone accessories? Dense grids, fast browsing. Spices and food? Warm colors, appetite-friendly type. - **Preview each on your phone**, not just desktop. Most of your traffic will be mobile. If the preview feels cramped on your phone, drop it. - **Pick one.** Done. The other 57 are not missed opportunities; they're a distraction with a preview button. > A plain theme that's live beats a perfect theme that's "almost ready." You will redesign in month three with real customer data. Everyone does. ## Branding in one hour, tops - **Logo (20 min):** use a free logo tool or just strong type — your store name in a good font is a perfectly respectable logo at this stage. A spice shop I know uses "Mama Almaz's Berbere" in a deep red typeface, nothing else. It works. - **Colors (15 min):** pick two colors and a neutral, from your product photos if possible. Write the hex codes somewhere. Every page you build from now on uses only these. Fifty colors is not branding; it's noise. - **Story page (25 min):** this is your unfair advantage over marketplaces. One page, four honest paragraphs: who you are, why you sell this, where you source it, what you promise. The spice shop's story — the same grinder her mother used, the market stall, the batches ground weekly — sells better than any discount. People buy from people. Write it like you'd tell a friend, then read it aloud and cut every sentence that sounds like an ad. ## The pages nobody reads until they desperately need them Shipping, returns, privacy, contact. Boring, yes — **this is the most boring section in the whole series; do it anyway.** These pages ship pre-written on BirrStore: sensible defaults you edit rather than blank documents you draft from scratch. That turns a weekend of legal-ish dread into 30 minutes. Edit three things in each: your real timelines, your real conditions, your real contact details. If returns are accepted within 7 days, say 7. If you ship same-day within your city, say it. The pre-written text gets you 90% there; honesty fills in the rest. Two reasons to care, even though almost nobody reads these pages on a normal day: (1) the people who do read them are about to spend money and are looking for a reason to trust or bolt; (2) payment providers and marketplaces check them when you apply. A store with no policy pages looks like a scam that hasn't been caught yet. ## Add your first real product photo Even today, before Day 3's proper photography session, put up one real product with a real photo — a phone snap is fine for now. This single act changes everything about the theme preview: you'll see the theme with your colors, your product, your fonts. Three stores out of four look different than their owners imagined once real photos go in. Better to know tonight than after you've built 40 pages. ## Do not touch these yet - Apps and integrations beyond the defaults - Custom code, custom CSS, layout surgery - A second language toggle (add it when you have traffic that needs it) - Any marketing tool with the word "funnel" in the description Every one of these is a rabbit hole wearing a productivity costume. ## Do this now - **Create the store account** and claim a short, spellable URL - **Shortlist 3 of the 58 themes**, preview on your phone, pick one — no customizing before choosing - **Make a simple logo, pick two colors, and write the four-paragraph story page** - **Edit the pre-written policy pages** with your real timelines and contact details - **Upload one real product photo** so the store stops looking like a template - **Set a hard stop:** when the timer says three hours, you're done for the day Tomorrow is Day 3: products that convert. Phone photography that doesn't look like phone photography, titles and descriptions that answer the questions buyers actually have, and pricing that ends in the right digit. Bring your best product and your worst photo.
